Hill Country

The central highland region of Sri Lanka is a world apart from the coastal plains. Starting south of Kandy, the road winds its scenic way to Nuwara Eliya, the island’s highest town and once a British hill station, surrounded by tea plantations. Nearby is Horton Plains at 6500 feet altitude, wildlife reserve and gateway to the sheer drop of World’s End and with views to the mighty mountain known as Adam’s Peak. To explore this region involves many long hours of driving so is often not suitable for young families – however, if it is of interest to you, just let us know by calling 01803 866965.

This relaxed yet full itinerary gives plenty of pleasurable time by the sea, while offering much of cultural and interior interest – while not by the sea, you will enjoy the benefit of having a private guide and vehicle. Boat trips along jungle waterways, watching baby elephants being bathed, marvelling at the Buddhist splendour of the Tooth Temple in Kandy, learning about tropical plants and swimming in warm seas and clear pools – all await you on this charming journey, perfect for families with younger children.
