The Seychelles

Seychelles MapLong renowned as the perfect family destination, the beautiful Indian Ocean islands of the Seychelles are also a great deal more. With two World Heritage Sites, four far-flung archipelagos, numerous nature reserves and bountiful coral reefs, the diverse islands hold much of interest to lovers of nature, both above and below the sea.

Colourful coral reefs teeming with fish, sea turtles, whale sharks, manta rays, rare land and sea birds, endemic flora, giant tortoises, chameleons, skinks, the world’s largest nut: all find refuge in these special islands. Fascinating wildlife walks, superb scuba and snorkelling, safe swimming, fine sailing and simple beachcombing – just some of the ingredients available with which to create a deliciously natural family holiday in the Seychelles.

Being outside the cyclonic belt and with benign wildlife, no malaria and safe bathing beaches, the islands are a haven for families desiring a more relaxing, less demanding yet stimulating natural history holiday.

Ideal for younger children, Gentle Family Fun In Stunning Seychelles is a gently paced, relaxing tour visiting two of the loveliest islands whilst being accommodated in family-friendly beachfront hotels offering safe swimming and snorkelling; A Seychelles Family Island-Hopping Adventure is suited to adventurous families with older children and combines three wonderfully different locations – Cerf, Praslin and the coral island of Desroches.

When to Go

Year-round temperatures stay around 29C (84F). There are two distinct seasons. The Southeast Monsoon runs from May -October, drier and cooler with less humidity - western coasts can have rough seas, especially June-August when Praslin’s Grand Anse suffers from seaweed. The Northwest Monsoon lasts from December-March: more rain (especially December and January), quite warm with generally lighter winds and calmer seas.

Seychelles Family Holidays

A good time to visit is between monsoons in April, when winds change direction, but many other months can be just as pleasant. July and August are the driest, coolest yet windiest months. Seabirds nest  from May-September, and migrate from October.

Suited to adventurous families with older children, this programme combines three wonderfully different locations. Lovely Cerf is only a few minutes from the main island, Mahe, yet feels well away from it all while providing very comfortable resort facilities. A private beachfront villa awaits you on Praslin, where you walk in the fabulous palm forests of Vallee de Mai and visit three island wildlife reserves. The coral island of Desroches provides the grand finale, part of a wild Indian Ocean atoll with great snorkelling and diving, offering plenty of scope for exploration and family beachcombing before flying home.
