Rio De Janerio

Rio needs no introduction, having been a popular destination since the 1950s. Most will have heard of Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, Christ’s statue on Corcovado and the cable car to Sugarloaf Mountain. Less well-known would be the Botanical Gardens and Tijuca National Park, on the re-forested slopes above Rio. But should you just wish to enjoy the beach, that too is eminently possible at Ipanema.

Ipanema Plaza
Ipanema is considered a much better beach than the larger Copacabana, and this modern, well-run hotel, one block back from the seaside, is a firm favourite with our clients. Its roof-top swimming pool is a big plus after a day’s sightseeing.

Buzios

Once no more than a small colonial fishing village set on a scenic peninsula blessed with beautiful beaches, Buzios, 105 miles east of Rio, only became internationally known after Brigitte Bardot lived there in the 1960s, and now has developed into a low-rise seaside resort favoured by well heeled Cariocas (inhabitants of Rio) escaping the city. There are many restaurants, bars and shops, and the twenty or more beaches cater to surfers and swimmers alike. Hire bicycles or a beach buggy to reach the most child-friendly beaches, ride horses, or perhaps choose a schooner tour around the coast.

Pousada Corsario
Very well situated right on the quiet, safe Ossos beach, the small, friendly hotel has characterful inter-connecting rooms with air-conditioning, outdoor swimming pool, spa, small play area, bar and breakfast lounge. Good restaurants and other beaches can be found nearby, and it is a short distance to the pretty Buzios town centre. An excellent option for families.

Suitable for families with older children, this varied itinerary combines three very different wilderness habitats – the verdant Amazonian rainforest, the vast Pantanal plains and the natural marine beauty of Marau – with one of the best preserved colonial cities in South America. There will certainly be many excellent wildlife sightings and a full range of activities to enjoy in the company of local English-speaking guides, as well as plenty of time at the end to relax. Truly a trip your family will remember fondly for years to come. Find out more...

This gentle itinerary for families who wish to minimise the amount of travel starts with a very comfortable, small Pantanal ranch by a river providing full wildlife possibilities as well as children’s swimming pool, tennis courts and sauna. Next come the urban delights of famous Rio with its Corcovado and Sugar Loaf mountains and Ipanema beach, followed by the chic Atlantic resort of Buzios for some seaside pampering. An attractive mixture of nature, town and coast offering something for every family member while staying in fine accommodation throughout.  Find out more...

Our aim is to produce an itinerary of impressive diversity for families with older children (8 years old or more). We begin at a luxury Pantanal lodge with excellent potential for wildlife sightings. We follow with Bonito and its crystal clear, fish-filled rivers, caves and the wonderful Hole of the Macaws. Then to the world’s most impressive waterfalls, Iguacu, before finally flying south for close encounters with dolphins and right whales. A multitude of exotic experiences which will remain with you and your children for the rest of your lives. Find out more...
